Power it up

The Instax 11 runs on two AA batteries (also known as ‘double As’), so why not add some of our Maplin Extra Long Life High Performance AA Batteries to your basket to keep your Instax 11 powered up?

To install the batteries, simply open the side compartment by sliding it down. Make sure you follow the directions inside to place the batteries the right way up. Then close the battery compartment again, turn on the camera using the button next to the barrel of the lens and check the orange LED indicator on the front of the camera. If it’s lit up, you’re good to go!

If it doesn’t light up, make sure the lens is all the way out. If it still doesn’t work, you may need to replace the batteries.

Load the film

When it comes to the Instax 11, you’ll want Fujifilm Instax Mini film. Other sizes, like Instax Square and Wide, won’t work with your camera. We have a whole range of colourful film choices available, so explore your options here!

To install your film of choice, make sure the camera is switched off by pushing the lens back into the camera body and open the latch that holds the back of the camera closed. Inside, you’ll see a yellow mark in the corner. Simply place your film into the Instax 11 so that the yellow mark on the cartridge lines up with the same coloured mark inside the camera.

On the film, there should be a notice saying not to push down on it. Make sure this side of the film cartridge is facing down towards the lens when you install it.

One step left: Turn the camera back on and the darkslide should automatically be ejected. The darkslide protects the film from light, so you won’t need it after the film is installed. If it doesn’t appear, press the shutter to eject it manually.

Taking pictures

Now for the fun part! Flash is automatically on and cannot be turned off, but this is important to make sure the instant film works properly.

Selfie mode can be engaged by pulling the front of the lens forward. If you’ve done it properly, the words ‘Selfie On’ will be visible on the top of the barrel. Snap your selfie, then simply push the front of the barrel back in.

When you take a photo, it’ll automatically eject from the top of the camera. As tempting as it is, don’t shake the image. It is already completely sealed and will slowly form in a few minutes.
